In Quebec, there is no law specifically regulating this practice. However, it is rare for an urn to be refused.

Here are some important facts:

  • The standard capacity of an adult cremation urn is 200 cubic inches.

  • Some funeral homes may charge between $15 and $100 to place the ashes inside the urn.

  • The products offered by Urnes Dépôt meet the highest standards of the funeral industry.

The first question to consider is: how will the ashes be placed or laid to rest?

After that, it is simply a matter of personal preference. To personalize your urn, contact us. One of our advisors will be happy to help you choose the option that best meets your needs.

This is a personal choice.

Quebec’s Funeral Operations Act states that it is prohibited to scatter human ashes in a place where they may constitute a nuisance, or in a manner that does not respect the dignity of the deceased.

You may therefore choose a traditional option, such as a cemetery or columbarium.

It is also possible to keep the ashes in a private residence.

Will you choose an eco-friendly cemetery, or would you prefer to scatter the ashes?

Yes. It is important to check with the columbarium registrar to understand the rules and requirements in place.

Most columbariums only accept urns made of stone, such as granite or marble, as well as brass urns.

It is also essential to know the exact dimensions of the funeral niche. If needed, our advisors can suggest a custom-made urn.

Green cemeteries only accept biodegradable urns (no glue, no paint, no varnish, no metals, etc.).

Most green cemeteries offer to simply place the ashes in the ground.

Except for placement in a columbarium where available space is an issue, this option remains a personal choice.

A keepsake urn is a small container, often a miniature urn or a larger piece of memorial jewelry, designed to hold a small amount of ashes.

A keepsake urn serves as a meaningful remembrance or keepsake. It is a thoughtful way to share the memory of a loved one among family members.

Cremation jewelry is a piece of jewelry designed to hold a small amount of ashes. Although it serves a similar purpose to a keepsake urn, it can be worn every day.

You may choose a stainless steel piece of jewelry that reflects a memory or a personality trait of the deceased.

For a more distinctive option, you may also choose handmade jewelry crafted by Quebec artisans.
